Hello.
After three generations of McCarthy dentists, I was the first of the family tree to break tradition because I felt my talents lied elsewhere. Instead, I studied graphic design to pursue my passion for design and technology. The knowledge and experience I have obtained through experience have assured me I chose the right career path.
Also, I think I would have been a horrible dentist.
In 2009, I joined Bonobos, a men’s apparel brand, which grew from thirty employees when I started to over two-hundred-fifty when I left. During my 5 years, I led the digital design and art direction at Bonobos. I ran a team of designers and was in charge of art directing small and large campaigns, designing an entirely new site experience, and launching a new golf line. In addition, I made a cultural impact on the overall atmosphere of the company that made people excited to come to work each day. In August 2015, I left Bonobos for an opportunity to join Apple as an Interactive Art Director, only to realize I miss the energy and creative opportunities that come with a young, small brand.
For the past 6 years, I have been the Executive Creative Director at SeatGeek, a ticket-buying platform for live events. Internally, my role has been to build a full creative team, define the creative process and support cross-functional initiatives. Externally, my team is in charge of driving brand strategy and executing brand campaigns to build brand awareness and strengthen our affinity with users. The combination of live events, technology and a start-up culture requires my team to be sharp, agile and open-minded. We pride ourselves on doing these things while maintaining a high level of quality.
I have a passion for making stuff look great, bringing ideas to life and working with a team to achieve the best results. Throughout my career, I have been challenged with the task of using my creativity to set brands apart from their competitors. Working in a start-up environment has given me the ability to try new techniques and test fun ideas, making my role an exciting journey. Working at a massive corporation has refined my skills and has taught me how to think about design on a global scale. Both have been equally rewarding.
I’m a hard worker who values integrity, good design, and the small details. I am always motivated, easily inspired, and a team player. When presented with a project, I bring skills to the table that are most important: vision, creativity, knowledge, organization and the ability to execute. I am self-critical of my own work and find constructive criticism to be a great way to build new ideas. I always strive to exceed expectations by taking every project as an opportunity for exploration.
My goal is to join a company that will inspire me, challenge me, and do whatever else it takes to mold me into a better design leader. Given my past experience and motivation, I feel I can make an excellent contribution.
Best,
Tim McCarthy
